Toby Birr, born in Whitefish, Montana, was surrounded by the Big Horn Mountain region of Wyoming while growing up.
As a youth he taught himself to draw and began working with oils and pastels while in his mid-teens. He attended Lyme Academy and the New York Academy of Fine Art where he studied anatomy of both the human and animal figure. Birr now lives in DuBois, Wyoming, "where he works to create meaningful compositions that transcend casual observation of the subject."
