Tom Lockhart

Born and raised in Southern Colorado, Tom Lockhart Grew up loving the outdoors.

Taking his first art lesson at the age of 9, all he wanted to do was paint dinosaurs and volcanoes. Tom later became interested with art through John Gnagy on TV and later enrolled in school art classes. Eventually, he moved son into other interests, only to be redirected by a professor at the College of Emporia, Emporia, KS. After a very interesting and varied education in the College Fine Arts Program, he graduated with a BFA and returned to his hometown in Monte Visa, CO and successfully ran his families retail furniture business until another life changing moment. He met the late Ray Vinella from Taos, NM and also Bill Moyers, both came to judge a local art show (at his families' furniture Store). The local art group was thrilled to have these artists judge their annual Event. Tom later became friends with these artists and was eventually introduced to other artists and venues along with some prominent galleries in the Southwest. After studying with Ray and other artists such as Lowell Ellsworth Smith, Ted Goershner, Irvine Shapiro & Wayne Wolfe, Tom began to grow as a representational Artist and enter National Shows/Exhibitions and other Events. He later became a Signature Member of the (RMPAP) Rocky Mtn Plein-Air Painters, (NWR) Northwestern Rendezvous Artist, (OPA) Oi, Painters of America, as well as Associate Member of (CWS) Colorado Watercolor Society, (PPWCS) Pikes Peak Watercolor Society & (NOAPS) National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society. Tom became an award-winning artist in Several National and Regional Events. Most Prominently: Region III Winner both in 1994 and 2004 for the National Arts for the Parks. Best of Show in the CWS Statewide Exhibition 2007. OPA Western Regional 1st Place and People's Choice 2005, People's Choice in 2010 NWR Exhibition, Southwest Art Magazine's Choice for Best Plein-Air winner in 2006 Telluride Plein-Air Festival. and Best of Show Winner for 3 Plein-Air Events, all in Colorado 2011.
